Job purpose

The Director of HR will report directly to the President and is responsible for the key tasks and responsibilities including, but not limited to, the ones listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

Partner with Executive Leadership Team

  • Work with VP's to develop Talent Career Plans for high achievers
  • Streamline job descriptions to accurately match actual work load
  • Work with the senior management team to develop, implement and maintain company policy and procedures.
  • Develop RACI's, succession planning, and talent review with VP's

  • Administer payroll processing for two separate payrolls
  • Prepare all payroll related (legislated and non-legislated) reports and remittances including CPP, EI, Pension Contributions, etc.
  • Manage and prepare all monthly and annual payroll related reconciliations
  • Assures accurate completion of new hire paperwork
  • Payroll including summaries and statements for government reporting, meeting strict payroll deadlines, maintaining client and employee records; and ensuring the payroll data is collected, input, processed, balanced and verified in accordance with the client and Government specifications
  • Manage monthly and year end remittance of government report including T4's and T4A's
  • Absence Management & Workers' Compensation - ensure total compliance with Federal & Provincial regulations. Status updates reporting on injury and illness in conjunction with benefits
  • Monitor WSIB costs and modified work program and keep current on legislation regarding Health & Safety

  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process as needed
  • Manage personnel needs of the company, and conduct new hire orientation as needed
  • Update employee manual and job descriptions
  • Conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind separation
Compensation & Benefits

  • Answers inquiries about various employee benefit plans such as life insurance, health & dental, LTD insurance, pension plans, sick leave, leave of absences, and unemployment
  • Assure compliance with compensation guidelines
  • Conduct wage surveys and benchmarking within labour market to determine competitive wage rates and bonus/incentive payouts
  • Performance evaluations at year end to determine salary increases, and bonus/incentive payouts
  • Direct and participate in the administration of the classification and compensation plan; establish job specifications and salary ranges for positions; initiate and conduct surveys; analyze, evaluate and make recommendations on proposed job reclassifications
  • Conduct organizational studies, investigations, and operational studies; recommend modifications to personnel programs, policies, and procedures
  • Review employee performance ratings with managers and VP's and propose appropriate salary increases
  • Work with VP's to determine budgets and bonuses their department
Employee Relations

  • Front line management of personnel issues
  • Participate in quarterly Health & Safety Committee meetings
  • Serve as an escalation point for medium to complex personnel and employee relations issues and provide guidance and intervention, in conjunction with
Employee and Manager, as needed, to resolve personnel issues

  • Support and advise on personnel on HR policy, ensuring compliance to the company's policies
  • Liaise with and respond to enquiries, complaints and concerns in a timely manner, and proactively engage in problem analysis and resolution
  • Provide, in a courteous and professional manner required, interpretation, guidance and information to all levels of employees including executives, management, external agencies and service providers
  • Assists in needs analysis, the development of training programs, and facilitating the training of field and home office personnel to support company goals and initiatives.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Department-wide training and new employee orientation projects
  • Wellness programs - ensure workforce is engaged and motivated through different functions
  • Work with various departments to ensure the organization effectively develops and utilizes the full potential of the entire workforce

  • University degree in Human Resources Management required
  • CHRL designation preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in HR Manager capacity with a strong focus on employee relations, talent and coaching, labour relations, and performance management
  • Strong knowledge of and advanced experience with payroll, compensation and benefits
  • Experience with SAP Success Factors and ADP Work Force Now
  • Must have demonstrated leadership/management experience
  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality of sensitive and private information
  • Cosmetics or beauty background preferred
