The Sr. Manager, Product Safety & Compliance reports to the Director, Quality Assurance and is responsible for ensuring all vendors are compliant and finished merchandise meets Canada Goose product safety standards. This position is responsible for implementing product compliance controls into product development (design and technical standards), sourcing initiatives, third party product testing and inspections, reducing the risk of harm to customers, complaints, and customer returns. The Sr. Manger supports continuous improvement in product quality and performance and is accountable for filing all appropriate compliance reports with regulatory agencies.
Develop and implement compliance testing protocol from Raw Materials to Finished Goods
Council across stages of materials development to bulk manufacturing stages in order to mitigate risk of product safety in the market place and brand protection.
Current chemical regulatory awareness through reliable network channels – Chemical Watch
Disseminate written policies and procedures related to compliance activities.
Verify that software technology is in place to adequately provide oversight and monitoring in all required areas.
Discuss emerging compliance issues with management and employees on an ongoing basis
Advise key internal partners (Product Development, Sourcing, Legal, Quality Assurance (QA), and Logistics) on the implementation or operation of compliance.
Provide employee training on compliance related topics, policies and procedures.
Prepare management reports regarding compliance operation and progress.
Monitor compliance systems and ensure their effectiveness.
Keep informed and up-to-date on pending industry changes, trends, and best practices; while assessing the potential impact of these changes on organizational processes.
Act as an advisory partner to the business in relation to market requirements and adherence to country specific regulations and standards (Prop 65, CPSIA, REACH, etc.).
Request/follow-up on Continuous Action Plans with factories.
Conducts risk assessments of finished products, including safety or RSL, SVHC compliance related testing, and implements new processes and procedures to ensure verification programs are effective and efficient.
Collaborates with product development team, to ensure regular and transparent reporting and communication on sku/item level performance and potential areas of improvement in specifications, processes or controls.
Liaise with Sales Associates and CG importers to determine product labeling and import guidelines, in various end-markets.
Experience, Education and Designations:
8-10 years of compliance experience (i.e. factory auditing, regulatory & compliance or similar)
4-5 years of experience managing a team
Degree in related discipline (i.e. Textiles, Apparels) in as asset
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
Knowledge and detailed understanding of Global compliance legislation and regulations related to child labor, forced labor, discrimination, wages & benefits, working hours, safety, health & hygiene, freedom of association, and environmental protection
Understanding of REACH and Blue Sign regulations
Displays strong oral and written communication skills
Must be forward thinking with a can-do attitude
Must have strong analytical skills and be able to make independent decisions.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
